Fibromyalgia and the herpes virus: Is there a connection?

Despite the instant negative reaction to the thought of the Herpes virus and the association with sexually transmitted disease, there are a number of different Herpes virus, including those responsible for Chicken Pox, Shingles, and Epstein Barr (mono). Even the ones with the most negative … [Read more...]

Holiday traditions for the chronically ill

Hustle and bustle, two words that instantly come to mind when you think of the holiday season. All the stress of the other 11 months of the year packed into about 5 weeks. When asked what most Fibro folks and others with chronic pain and fatigue think of when they think of the holidays happy … [Read more...]

Sunday Inspiration: When Everything is Going Wrong, Be Thankful

Last Updated: November 9, 2014

The last thing anyone fighting any chronic illness wants to hear is that someone else has it worse than you do. It really doesn't matter that your illness might not potentially be your cause of death, it has lead to the end of your life (as you know it). Our lives will end dozens (if not hundreds) … [Read more...]

6 Things the Chronically Ill Wish Healthy People Could Understand

Last Updated: October 20, 2014

I started thinking about this topic recently, about how there are certain things about living with chronic pain that those around us will never understand. That a healthy person just can't (sometimes won't) understand. As I thought about what came to my own mind, I asked the question … [Read more...]

Do you use your illness as an excuse?

Last Updated: September 7, 2014

I have a confession, I've used my illness as an excuse a time or two. I've said I had a migraine to get out of something or to leave something early. We've had an event or two that neither of us really wanted to attend, so I developed a migraine after we got there to give us an early out. On the … [Read more...]

We Are All Hiding Pain

Last Updated: August 11, 2014

I just read that the comic genius, Robin Williams, was found dead today. He was only 63 (younger that my parents), and the cause is believed to be suicide by asphyxiation. That's a rough way to go, and I'm really hoping they later decide it was an accidental death related to some kinky sex play. … [Read more...]

No One Deserves Pain

Last Updated: July 28, 2014

I ran across this image on Twitter recently that said "Just Because I am Strong Enough to Handle PAIN, Doesn't Mean I Deserve it!" I couldn't help but be struck by the truth of it, but what really jumped out in my mind was this thought that NO ONE deserves pain. We didn't earn it. We didn't do … [Read more...]

Chronic Pain: It’s all in Your Head (but not the way you think)

Last Updated: June 20, 2014

I read this article "Chronic Pain May Be All In the Brain" recently and couldn't help but think "Well, DUH!" I think anyone with Fibromyalgia knows by now that the pain we have does not come from the site of the pain itself. My arm hurts doesn't mean there's something wrong with my arm. I thought … [Read more...]

Chronic Pain Is like…

Last Updated: June 15, 2014

Pain is kinda like a nagging child. "mommy...mommy... mommy...mommy". Those of us with chronic pain learn to ignore it the same way most parents can tune out that nagging, but eventually it just gets to be too much and you scream "WHAT DO YOU WANT!" There are so many analogies of … [Read more...]
