Treatment

These posts discuss various treatment options. Some options I have tried, others that have been suggested through various medical studies.

Dismissive Doctors and the Death of Compassion for Invisible Illness

Last Updated: June 30, 2014

Hey Doctor, remember me? I'm the one you dismissed. You said I was faking it or it was all in my head. Well, guess what... you were wrong. We've all been there at least once with a dismissive doctor and oh how we long to be able to go back to them the way that Dorothy did on Golden … [Read more...]

Chronic Pain: It’s all in Your Head (but not the way you think)

Last Updated: June 20, 2014

I read this article "Chronic Pain May Be All In the Brain" recently and couldn't help but think "Well, DUH!" I think anyone with Fibromyalgia knows by now that the pain we have does not come from the site of the pain itself. My arm hurts doesn't mean there's something wrong with my arm. I thought … [Read more...]

Customer Service and Communication: Part 2

Last Updated: June 3, 2014

Customer Service and Communication Last week I wrote about  the doctor that regularly has the two-hour wait and how she'd told me to call for test results, only for me to do so and have her staff tell me I had to come in to have the results read to me. After I made the appointment to come in … [Read more...]

Fibromyalgia and sex (the unspoken reality) - Image of couple in bed - Counting My Spoons

Fibromyalgia and Sex the unspoken reality Sex. It's not a dirty word, yet it's a topic that we seem to want to avoid, instead of deal with. We ignore it and try to pretend that the giant purple elephant is not in the room. When I talk to friends with Fibromyalgia, the topic of sex rarely comes up, … [Read more...]

Customer Service and Communication: My Pet Peeve

Last Updated: May 26, 2014

This post is going to be a little more negative than I like to be, because it deals with one of my greatest pet peeves - Poor Communication and Customer Service, especially in the health industry We've all had he experience where we go to the doctor and wait two hours for a five-minute … [Read more...]

My experience with anal manometry

Last Updated: May 5, 2014

Anal-Rectal Mamometry

It's not every day that I get to wear "moon pants" so that someone can stick a probe up my butt, but that's just what I did last week. That probe was actually part of an anal manometry test. In the continuing saga of abdominal pain and other IBS related issues, I headed back to my GI … [Read more...]

7 Tips For Better Doctor Visits

Last Updated: March 16, 2014

I originally posted this back in May of 2010, but I thought my current readers may enjoy seeing it. After changing GPs in 2010, I realized that there were a few ways that I could help make sure that the transition went well, and take those same things into other doctors to make things easier for … [Read more...]

Controlling Negative Thoughts: Why I Chose to Seek Help

Last Updated: March 11, 2014

Getting help with controlling negative thoughts

After letting the chronic pain and related issues drag me down the last three months I decided I finally had enough and had to do something. I'd reached a point where I didn't have the answer and couldn't quite get a handle on what I needed to do on my own. I needed help controlling my negative … [Read more...]

My Experience With Myofascial Release Therapy

Last Updated: November 22, 2013

A couple of months ago I bought a Groupon for a local Myofascial Release (MFR) therapist. Unlike most Groupons this guy came highly recommended by others who had used him, and he was mainly using Groupon as a way to provide a great deal for local Fibromyalgia patients. I was able to get a 3-pack … [Read more...]

Last Updated: September 18, 2013

Today's Fibro Warrior is actually my mom, Gracie B. This isn't going to follow my usual interview format, but rather I'm going to just let her share her most recent journey. She's not actually been diagnosed with Fibro but all the signs are there. Add to that that I've been diagnosed and so has her … [Read more...]
