The Fibromyalgia Handbook is not the 7 step Program to halting or reversing Fibromyalgia, as it claims to be. The 7 steps are just the breakdown of different types of treatments, and the suggestion is that you should be doing something from each of these types of treatments (which isn’t a bad suggestion). However, it’s not really steps, it is just lists of every type of treatment that is available and currently known for Fibromyalgia.
The 7 Steps:
1. Medical Treatment. This section breaks down all the potential drug treatments available for Fibro, from anti-depressants to pain meds and everything in between.
2. Exercise. Again this section tells us what we already know and just lists the types of exercise that are recommended for us.
3. De-stress.
4. Complementary Approach to Pain Relief. This section addresses the alternative medicines like accupunture, massage, aromatherapy etc.
5. End Sleepless Nights – ways to get better sleep.
6. Nutrition.
7. Seek Support – find a support group.
Again, most of the sections are nothing more than lists (with explanations) of the various types of treatments available that fit into that section. The medical treatment section literally lists EVERY type of drug available to treat Fibro. This book is not a plan.
If you are brand new to Fibro and/or you just want to know every potential treatment there is for Fibro, then check this book out. If you are going to get it, I’d say check it out of the library or get it from PaperbackSwap. I wouldn’t buy this book (especially new) as I doubt it’s one you’ll want to keep around.
