Do You Have Compassion For Yourself?

Last Updated: August 12, 2020

Do you have compassion for yourself?

We expect others to give compassion. We expect them to have it towards others as well as themselves. We give compassion to others without thinking, but do you have compassion for yourself? I've written and thought a lot lately about compassion. How doctors lack it, how people need to be more … [Read more...]

Chronic Illness doesn’t make you a failure

Last Updated: August 6, 2020

Chronic illness does not make you a failure

Do you feel like a failure because of your illness? Or, do you feel like a success? Donna over at February Stars shared some great thoughts about how our definition of success relates to chronic illness. We define our own successes, not societal pressures. When you strip it all back what … [Read more...]

Let’s STOP Pretending

Last Updated: June 7, 2015

People have rough times and everybody's pretending it's not true, and we need to break that veneer. It's time to stop pretending that everything is OK when it's not.

Sometimes I worry that people will read my blog and see the positivity I try to share, and the fact that I've said I feel I've recovered from Fibromyalgia and think that that means I'm 100% hunky-dory and never have a bad day. But, that's not the truth. I still have bad days and I don't try to … [Read more...]

#StoptheStigma Where does Stigma Come From?

Last Updated: May 31, 2015

After my post last week about the Stigma of Mental Illness, I received an email that got me thinking. " The Stigma of Mental Illness The Stigma of Rape They are the same allegations. Funny how we transfer a prejudice rather than end it. I stopped claiming the latter, maybe you could … [Read more...]

I've seen a lot of posts talking about meditation and how difficult it is, and when I read those my thoughts are usually that I agree it's difficult but not for the reasons most list. "Just don't give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don't think you can go wrong." - Ella Fitzgerald My inspiration this week is from somewhat of a different source. Last week I was introduced to the story of Mike Persi - now known as Miracle Mike … [Read more...]

Solving the Fibromyalgia Puzzle

Last Updated: April 19, 2015

Have you ever thought about fibromyalgia as a puzzle to solve? Often we think of fibromyalgia as one big thing and as a result we look for one big solid answer, But perhaps the answer is really more of a puzzle with many pieces that need to be fit together. That's the thought that my friend Donna … [Read more...]

The Importance of Being Vulnerable

Last Updated: March 29, 2015

The Importance of Vulnerability

Vulnerability is difficult. Too often we associate vulnerability with weakness. Even looking at the thesaurus for synonyms that's what we find, weakness, exposed, sitting duck, naked, defenseless. But, what we don't realize is that it's the avoiding vulnerability that really makes us weak. … [Read more...]

Accepting Your Diagnosis

Last Updated: March 1, 2015

Acceptance is one of the five stages of grief, and it is not the first one. So, it's not a surprise that it's a struggle for many of us to accept our diagnosis. If you're like me, you've probably gone rounds with this, at times accepting your diagnosis only to follow it with another round of being … [Read more...]
