tuna & carrots for lunch & nuts |
This was my lunch today (Day 3). Day 2 went by pretty uneventfully. However, I can’t say I didn’t stray at all. I did add a packet of raw sugar to my coffee. I’m really trying to get to where I can drink it totally black (but it’s hard). I was thinking that I’d failed by not saying no to the sample lady at CostCo who had these really awesome Kielbasa sausages. I’d tried them a week or so ago and ended up buying them. So, when I saw that they were back I snagged a bite without thinking. I was happy when I got home and checked the package to see that in addition to being gluten-free (which I was sure of) they were also MSG-free, which, I believe, makes them OK. One thing I’m not totally sure of is nitrates. I know they aren’t the same as MSG but I also know they aren’t exactly good for you either. I also had a small bit of Kirkland brand bacon (another sample). It’s so rare that they have any samples I feel even safe looking at let alone eating, but I knew both of those were gluten-free, so I didn’t really think about it.
I think I may be seeing another cluster headache appearing. I felt a headache coming on yesterday around lunchtime and it is still lingering. Woke me up in the middle of the night even. I went to the Chiro today hoping that an adjustment and acupuncture would help it. However, I’ve noticed this afternoon that my vision has been “wonky”. So, we’ll see. At least my head doesn’t hurt as bad as it did all night.
Today’s Whole 30 rough patch has already come. I’m hoping it’s the only one. Oddly, it hit me while at my health food/ produce store. The problem is that I found out last week (or the week before) that they now carry Coconut Bliss ice cream, which is the best stuff on earth. Their Dark Chocolate can hands down beat any other brand of ice cream out there AND the best part is it only has 5 ingredients and it’s dairy-free. So, when I walked into the store today I was thinking about that and craving that. But, I did good. Instead, I tried something else new to me Synergy Cosmic Cranberry. It smells a bit like apple cider vinegar but tastes much better. I can definitely see myself drinking more of it.
In other news, my biggest worry about managing to do the Whole 30 was Paul not doing it. However, at the same time I knew that if I did do it, it would be more motivation for him to pursue his own healthy diet. He’s avoided doing the Paleo diet or even going gluten-free or anything else. He eats what I eat at home in the evenings but does his own thing during the day. However, more and more lately he’s been suggesting that he wants to move away from MSG as he’s heard more and more about how bad it is and how it basically encourages your body to want to eat more. Saturday, on our way to dinner, he mentioned that he was thinking about trying to find this diet that he’d done about 10 years ago and lost a fair amount of weight on. The base of the diet is eggs and grapefruit and it somehow resets your metabolism and cravings. I’m all for anything he wants to do that is healthier, and he finally managed to track this diet down yesterday. Looking at it, with the exception of two things on it (cottage cheese and toast) it’s actually pretty close to Paleo. And, if it weren’t for the eggs I’d try to do it with him (minus the cottage cheese and toast). However, with the eggs such a huge part of it, I’ll stick to doing the Whole 30 while he does this. I’m hoping that his 2 weeks on this diet make it easy for him to transition to a healthier way of eating overall (maybe Paleo, maybe just something close but healthy).
