Just reading through this article and the one thing that stood out to me, was something I hadn’t seen any articles about previously (and something I want to research further).
Earlier this year, researchers discovered a gene highly associated with fibromyalgia. It may predispose some people to develop the disease.
This is something I’ve believed for quite a while, for the simple reason that it seems I have encountered so many stories where Fibro seems to run in a family. In my own family, we are fairly sure now that my maternal Grandmother had it and that it may have been a large part of what caused her to retire early. My Mom shows many of the same symptoms (although has not been diagnosed) and now my aunt has been diagnosed with Fibro, as well.
Doctors, like Dr. Jon Russell in this article, are finding more and more proof that there is a brain chemical change in those of us with Fibromyalgia, that the pain is caused by an amplification of normal pain signals. Hopefully, through continued research by doctors like him, a cause will be found and from there a cure.
