There’s been an interesting new study that they are saying shows that a high frequency vibration may help reduce pain in those suffering from Fibro. I have to say that I’m not so sure. In the study they first created pain through heat then used the high frequency vibration in the same area that the pain was created. In about 40% of subjects across the board, the vibration helped reduce the pain.
Here’s the problems I have with this study….
They took a cross-sample of patients with pain in various locations (head/neck, arms, and no pain), but in all cases they created pain in the same location and then used the vibration in the same location again. This doesn’t tell me anything about whether or not this high frequency vibration will help with my head and neck pain, it only tells me that if you burn my arm then stick something on that gives off a high frequency vibration, there’s a 40% chance that afterward my arm will feel better. Heck, there’s probably a 40% chance that if I run it under cold water, or just rub it with some lotion it would feel better. How about trying the same technique on the areas that were actually hurting to begin with and see if it makes any difference? Or even trying the same technique on a sort of pain that is the same as a burn. Sorry, but my aches and pains and a burn are not quite the same. In fact, I’ve burned myself more since I’ve had Fibro than I had in the last 10 years and usually that pain went away a lot faster than any pain I’ve had from Fibro.
How about we do some studies that actually prove something before we start releasing all these press releases and articles saying we’ve proven something?
